To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
I told her the truth—right now I didn’t have time because I was working. Then I cringed. She would tell her husband. Her husband would tell other people. And soon the word would be out that Robert Forrester’s wife had to work such long, hard hours that she couldn’t even join the Junior League. “I’ll make a special effort to get to know some of the wives at the ball,” I promised, “but I need to ask Mom to go shopping with me this time. She’s so lonely without me living there.” He swallowed a bit...e of pancake. “So, what have you been reading about?” I poured syrup over my own pancakes. “Well, last night I read about how to interview clients,” I said. “You know, how to put them at ease. How to accept them without judging them. That sort of thing.” “Bedside Manner 101.” Robert blotted his lips with his napkin. “They should teach that in medical school, but they don’t.” “I guess a doctor wouldn’t have time for all that listening.” “Very true.”

This was a very touching touching story and I did finish it , I was so applauded that certain practices like eugenics took place in the 50's and 60's in our country . Life if precious no matter how it is conceived. People sometimes in life make bad decisions especially when they are young but again that's life. This story was proof of that , but in the end there is a time when love and faith and truth will always prevail.

This book was a great read. When I wasn't reading it, I wondered what was happening to the characters, as though some how their lives went on despite me. That, to me, is a sign of an excellent book. It's the story of a girl who desperately wants a better future future, and a woman who believes that such a thing cannot possibly be a pipe dream. The ending skips so suddenly and so far into the book as to make me wonder how it's even possible for certain characters to even be alive still.

Loved the book. The story of parallel lives; one priveledged, one dirt-poor, and the double standards society applied to both at a time when women had no rights and the poor had even less. But it's not just that. It's a story that speaks about hope, and how hope can overcome almost anything at all. The final chapter felt rushed and the timeline skewed, but it provided the necessary closure. This is going down on my excellent reads list, for sure.
