He was son of Blaise and Catharine (Baker) Cenas, and was born in Philadelphia, 5 November, 1805. He was prepared for college by Rev. James F. Hull, rector of Christ Church, Philadelphia. On leaving college, he chose the profession of law, and pursued his studies under the instruction of William Christy and John R. Grymes, of New Orleans ; and, after his admission to the bar, he opened an office in that city, where he practised for several years ; but subse quently relinquished it, and establis...hed himself as a notary- public. He was a gentleman of great affability of manner, was highly esteemed for his many excellent personal qualities, and retained the confidence of a large business-acquintance in the exercise of the duties of his important profession. He married, February, 1833, Margaret Pierce, of New Or leans, who survived him. They had thirteen children, seven sons and six daughters, of whom two sons and all the daughters survived him. 1830. JOHN WHITE BROWNE, of Boston, was instantly killed in Braintree, Mass.
