To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
She re-entered Dec. 22, 1875. I found the patient in probably the same state in which she first came into the hospital. She is a spare, tall woman, very restless and emotional. She cannot express her- self at all, for when she attempts to speak the tongue refuses to do its part in articulation, and the result is the utterance of ill-arranged sounds, which are not properly formed into words. She smacks her lips, and " clicks" her tongue against the roof of the mouth, and the sounds which come fo...rth are tremulous and agitated, and just such as one would expect to hear from a person who was agitated by some great fear. The con- tortions of the arms are very violent and irregular, and almost defy de- scription. The body seems to twist upon the pelvis ; the arms are thrown backwards and forwards, and the hands and fingers are constantly work- ing. She seems to have no volitional control over her limbs, and has very little muscular force. She walks without any apparent embarrassment, but when seated the movements in the lower extremities are more active than when she stands up.
