They -were visited in 1744-48, by Father Sedelmayer, who found them living in peace with the Pimos. To the westward of them, this authority mentions the Yumas, who were en- emies of the Coco Maricopas, though speaking a di- alect of the same language. These three tribes, via' the Pimos, Coco Maricopas and the Yumas, with two others not named, were called the peaceable nations, which should be sheltered from the north- ern tribes. For this purpose several expeditions were proposed in order to conquer the Apaches, none of which, however, were undertaken.
