Upon this occasion, I write to you, Sir, con- cerning nine Frenchmen who came from New France, called Pierre and Paul brothers, La Rose, Phillippe, Bellecourt, Petit Jean, Galliere and Moreau, who have told me of their plan to intro- duce a trade in these provinces, which at the pres- ent time does not possess any, but, if one would allow them to execute their plan, one could easily overcome this obstacle, because we are not farther away than 200 leagues from a very rich mine, abounding in silver, called Chiquagua, where the inhabitants of this country often go to trade, and if they saw a possibility of using what they could get there, this would encourage them to exploit several mines, which they have.
