The chiefs said to Burnet: "We come to you howling, and the reason we howl is that the governor of Canada encroaches on our land and builds thereon. " The chiefs declared that they were not strong enough to resist the French and begged the English to help them. They formally surrendered their country to the great King "to be protected by him for their use.
