In 1876 run by A. R. Barlow, after whom Simpson again took 248 ILLINOIS HISTORICAL COLLECTIONS charge and closed it out. Anti-Republican, principally Demo- cratic, tinged with Greenbackism.
Independent, 1878 to date : Established as a semi-weekly by Perry, Crawford, and Kutz, March i, 1878.
