"After the concert, " Berlioz writes to his father, "Paganini, this grand and noble artist, came upon the stage and told me that he was so deeply moved and profoundly impressed that he felt like kneeling at my feet ; when I protested against such an exaggerated demonstration, he drew me to the centre of the stage, and there, in the presence of some of the members of my orchestra who had not yet departed, and in spite of my efforts to restrain him, he knelt at my feet, declaring that I had gone farther than Beethoven.
