But this can and ought to be only a partial and temporary diversion of the current springing out of this ever active source. The dividends must be paid ; the pay- ment will annually increase the aggregate quantity of capital ; and we may trust to the good sense of those to whom it is paid, that the capital, once created, will be preserved from annihilation.
