Griggs (1922, p. 314) found them in the Katmai Region. Osgood (1904, p. 29) wrote: Moose are scatteringly distributed on the Alaska Peninsula and extend farther west than has been generally supposed. In a native's camp on the Ugaguk River I saw fresh meat and pieces of the skin of a moose which was killed about October 1 on the upper waters of the King Salmon River, a northeastern tributary of the Ugaguk.
