Special Arrangements. — In many cases persons who have been engaged in practical work and desire to better their condition by systematic training and who are not candidates for a degree may be permitted to take special studies. Such men often prove to be among the best students, since they realize clearly the purpose of their work and the value of time.

9. Degrees. — The School of Mines offers the degree of Engi- neer of Mines, E. M.
The conditions under which this is given are as follows : To obtain this degree the student must have been a resident student of this institution for at least one full year prior to grad- uation.
