PREFACE.
It is a very singular fact that only ...one translation of any of the Burmese codified laws of inheritance has ever yet been made. Of course I allude to Dr. Richardson's Menu Kyaij, As it is 60 years since the first British occupation, the rate of progress is only three translations in a century ; and for this reason and to end the present state of things I have hurried through the Press a translation of the Maiioo Wonnana Diiam- mathat on this part of the law.
2. The Wonnana was compiled by Kyaw Deng about 1772 from older sources. This was in the reign of Tsheng-bhoo- sheng, the son of Alompra.
