The present roads (December^ 19 19) are (a) broad tracks, cleared and improved on the original main caravan or trade routes, (ft) lesser tracks leading to certain of the more important district villages and (c) native tracks connecting each village with its neighbours. Only (a) can be called "roads. " 27 These roads are as follows : From Loko on the River Benue, a fair road runs straight North through Xassarawa to Keffi. This, with a comparatively small ex- penditure, can be made passable for wheeled traffic.
