Vaccination, to be efficacious, must be thorough. The following appears in a pamphlet on vaccination, published by the National Health Society : ' The degree of protection against small- pox is in direct proportion to the thoroughness of the vaccination, so that it is highly important that the operation should be done as soon, and as effectually, as possible. Partly because of the large amount of indifferent vaccination of the sort just mentioned, and partly because even the best infantile vaccina- tion sometimes in process of time loses more or less of its effect, it is important that all persons who have been vaccinated in infancy should undergo AND YOUNG CHILDKEN 29 revaccination on reaching the age of twelve.
