Thomas Cholwell matriculated at Oxford (Oriel College) as serviter 1 April 1656, took his B. A. 1659, M. A. 1663, was rector of Asley, Hants, 1679, and of Kimpton 1680.
The old rectory house at Kimptou, which stands just off the road to the north east of the church, is a building of unusual interest. More modern additions have concealed the original plan to a great extent. But I have very little hesi- tation in saying that the old part of the house dates as far back as the fourteenth century.
