What reading level is Ocean Trade And Shipping book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
But for shipowners to provide costly ships, which are to sail whether full or empty, and to call at a variety of ports in fixed order and at regular intervals, means great outlay and great working expense. To undertake such responsibilities as these, only to find that the traders were giving preference to the first ship which would offer half-a-crown lower freight, would be in the highest degree improvident. Therefore the shipowners make a bargain with the traders. The result is the Rebate Syst...em. Now there is nothing new about this s}'stem. It is under- stood and practised all the world over. If the South African traders are opposed to it, the remedy is in their own hands ; they can say they will have no more of it^ But instead of doing this they load the shipowners with complaints, and cry to the Government to help them out of a difficulty which they have created for themselves and which they themselves are in a position to solve effectually. Let the traders agree amongst themselves that they will have no more Rings.
