He is, therefore, obliged to run some risk in larger purchases, which the speculative trade inflicts upon him, or he may find himself compelled to buy second hand, according to his needs. It will be seen that sound, legitimate speculation, and its influence on the shaping of prices, is totally ousted by the modem speculative trade, with ruinous influence on values.
