Soon after the return of the army from the Mine Run campaign, the brigade went into winter quarters about two miles south of Brandy Station, on the east side of the railroad, and on the plantation owned by John Minor Botts. The quarters occupied had been constructed, in the main, by the rebels prior to the 8th of November, 1863.
