Bishop Hall expressly admits that Episcopacy is necessary to the perfection, but not essential to the being of the Church ; he fully grants that the continental Churches are true, and speaks with abhorrence of those who would deny it. " They lose nothing," he says, of *' the true es- sence of a Church, though they miss something of its glory and perfection." When he was taken to task by Archbishop Laud for making these concessions, he would not retract them, and they are now in his work on Episcopacy.* * The followiDg is his language to Bishop Hall : " In yonr OLD TRUTHS AND NEW ERRORS.
