The exception is in the case of the ovary and the testis, which, being entirely distinct in every respect, constitute the only morphological difference between the two sexes ; a true hermaphroditism is, of course, impossible, except between the two sides of the body; and this would be a positive condi- tion, while all the so-called cases of hermaphroditism are merely negative and doubtful states.
