That they are opposed in their action on respiration, physostigma paralyzing, and atropia stimulating, the respiratory function. 4. That they are not opposed in their action on the cerebrum, atropia producing delirium, and physostigma having no effect on the cere- bral functions, while both cause more or less carbonic-acid narcosis. 5. That they act differently and not in an opposed manner on the spinal cord and nerves, both producing paralysis, but atropia does, and physostigma does not, impai...r the irritability of motor nerves. As regards the sensory nerves, physostigma augments their irri- tability, while atropia seems rather to lessen it, if any effect is produced. 6. That they act oppositely on secretion, physostigma stimulating and atropia arresting the secretions in general.
