Translated from the Original Latin of THOMAS A KEMPIS. To which are added Meditations and Prayers On various Occasions : Also Reflections and... Practical Observa- tions On every Chapter never before Published IN ANY Edition of this excellent Piece.

London : Printed for William Rayner, and sold by the Booksellers of London and Westminster, 1738.
In the Preface it is said of the work : "The whole Christian world is speaking for 82 ON THE ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS OF THE it : and as it is known to all men, that it says more for it scelf than can be said for it, it would bring a loss upon my time if I were to say more, than that this translation if it comes out, to make it speak as near as we can to the hearts rather than to the ears of men according to the purity, charity, and uprightness of the intention of its author : for the work shews, he thought not of the ears, but of the hearts of men only, in the time he was composing it.
