Symptoms. — It has been already stated that the lesions of multiple sclerosis affect the brain, brain axis, and spinal cord in different degrees in various cases, and therefore it is not surprising that three types of the disease have been described by writers according as symptoms ref- erable to one of these parts predominate ; but since in all cases which continue for a long time the terminal result is about the same, it is only necessary to mention these types as variations in the mode of on- set.
