Religious services were held in Hamilton by the Congregational mis- sionaries as early as 1807, as also by several other denominations there- after.
St. Paul's Episcopal society was organized in 1818. The church edi- fice, of stone, was begun in 18 16 and finished in 18 18, and was built at the e...xpense of the Trinity church of New York and of David A. Ogden. Its walls are three feet thick, and the building stands to-day substan- tially as at first erected. It was consecrated by Bishop Hobart, August 22, 18 1 8, and was the first church dedicated in the county. The society THE TOWN OF WADDINGTON. 711 was incorporated October 19, 1818, with David A. Ogden and Gouver- neur Ogden as wardens ; and Jason Fenton, Robert McDowell, Thomas Short, Thomas Archibald, John Dewey, John S. Chipman, Thomas Rutherford, and Elisha Meigs as vestrymen.
