Family life during those years before the older children left to attend the Juarez Academy was very unique. There were thirteen children between the ages of one and seventeen (1906), all living in the same house. Our dinner table was set for eighteen when all were present. Every meal was preceded by a blessing on the food, and twice daily by family prayers. On Sunday morning a special family gathering was held. On that occasion father gave us instructions, family problems were discussed, and fu...ture plans were made. As a spiritual leader, father had no equal. His strong faith and humble demeanor were the factors which won obedience and respect from wives and children alike. His decisions were the same as revelations to the family. These family gatherings were concluded by prayer, father or one of the wives acting as mouth. After these services we all marched off to Sunday School as Saints should. Until early in 1908 these services were held mostly in our own home, the north room, where all our community dances were held.
