In 1G(!;1, New Haven joined the others, and thenceforth these formed the colony of Connecticut. In 164;), the four colonies of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Con- necticut, and New Hampshire formed a confederacy, called the United Colonies of New England. The object was " the better to provide for their connnon security and welfare.
