Garland, who had been appointed attorney-general of the United States, and one to succeed J. D. Walker for the term beginning on March 4, 1885. Ex-Governor James H. Berry was elected to succeed Garland and James K. Jones was elected as the suc- cessor of Walker.
Twenty-Sixth General Assembly- Members of the twenty-sixth General Assembly were elected September 6, 1886. In this Assembly the Republicans held only the usual negligible number of seats.
