The distance from the inlet to Owego by this route was 29. 6 miles.

Ephraim Leach, the builder of Leach's mills on the Owego creek, in the town of Tioga, was appointed 445 b-ui)erinte"ndent of structure and engi- neering at tiie soutii end of tlie road.
When tlie survey of tiie road had been completed it was found that the original capital of $150, 000, which had all been taken, was insufficient to con- struct it, although at first, for want of correct information of the nature and expense of railroads, it was supjiosed to be adequate to the purpose.
