Henry now gave Anne a farm at Greenwich of the yearly value of £66. We have already noted that there was a garden at Greenwich Friary, and we also read that there was a large and small garden at the palace. The orna- ments in the gardens of those days were chiefly architectural, consisting of fountains and other con- ceits. Floriculture was in its infancy, and could not boast of the splendid colours and forms in which it has since triumphed.
