El- Iludeirah, "the little enclosure, " and Wady Hudair, " valley of little enclosures, " are found 12 miles south-east of Hebron and 7 miles north INDEX. I99 of Arad, possibly preserving the position of some. Conder, Palestine Quarterly, 1883, p. 181, suggests that the name Hazor applied to circles which had a sacred origin. This is possible, but the name seems too widely used, unless we should suppose that in early times the Avim made an enclosure, as the Patriarchs built an altar, wherever they settled.
