[FORTY-THIRD PAPER. ] BY HENRY L. WHEELER AND TREAT B. JOHNSON. From a theoretical standpoint a larger number of alkyl com- pounds may result by alkylating a uracil derivative than can be obtained by a similar treatment of a 2-mercapto-6-oxy- pyrimidine. With the mercaptopyrimidines only three mono- derivatives should result. With uracil, 4-methyluracil, thy- mine, or 5-methyluracil, in each case there are ten possible compounds, four mono- and six dialkyl derivatives. This includes oxygen derivatives, but not tautomeric forms.
