...removed to Rome, Ga., the chief town of Cherokee (now Floyd County), from which the Indians had only recently been removed to the reservation. She was a woman of rare intellectual powers and great administrative ability. She devoted her life to teaching; hrst in a private school for girls, and then for more than thirty years in the Rome Female College in what was practically a frontier settlement, and it would be hard to overestimate the part played by this noble and cultured Christian lady in the upbuilding of the whole section of the State of Georgia, in which her life work was spent.
