He came to Phila- delphia bearing with him a letter of recommenda- tion from George Fox, and for many years he had the warm support of the Friends, who needed a printer here, and whose assistance took much ...the form of a largess, since they agreed, besides giving him all of the business they could throw in his way, to pay him a salary of 40 pounds a year, and to take at least two hundred copies of all books printed by him with the advice of the meeting.
The Body of the Laws adopted at an Assembly held at Chester, 7th of loth month, 1682, contained the following provisions :' Chap. 28. " That if any person shall speak write or act anything tending to sedition or disturbance of the peace, and be duly convicted thereof, the party so offending shall for every such offence be ' Duke of York's Book of Laws.
