As to the Susanna referred to in the Carleton list, it can hardly be identified ; Rubens made many versions of this subject from the early one at Madrid to the late version at Munich. There exists, however, an engraving by Vorsterman of a Susanna and the Elders, now in Chicago Museum, which Rubens, in a letter to Peter van Veen (19th June 1622), calls one of the best reproductions of his work. This engraving bears the following dedication to " Lectissimae Virgini Annae Roemer Visschers illustri... Bataviae sijderi, multarum Artium peritissimae, Poetices vero studio, supra sexum celebri, rarum hoc Pudicitiae exemplar, Petrus Paulus Rubenus, L.M.D.D." This lady had copied a picture by Rubens, the Madonna squirting Milk from her Breast into the Child's Mouth.
Together with a laudatory poem on the picture, she sent a letter to Rubens asking him how he managed to grind up his white paint so that it never turned yellow.
Achilles disguised as a Woman was amongst the pictures refused by Carleton, and it was finally taken with others to Spain in 1628.
