W. B. Woodbury, in London, was the first to indicate a very similar method for the production of his artificial transparencies, his process differing but little from the above.
There is a vital dinerence, which must be well remembered, between genuine watermarks (filigree paper), such as used for bank notes, etc., and artificially obtained marks as here described, in so far as the latter quickly disappears when the paper is thoroughly damped, whilst a genuine watermark becomes even more promine...nt under this treatment.
