It is true that, as in Madagascar, only nobles have the right to become butchers, so in olden days only Hanoverian nobles were allowed to become officers in the army. But since then so many distinctions have been gained by men of the middle class, who have becom. E officers in German regiments, that even this survival of feudal privileges has disappeared. In fact, the whole German Legion itself has done much towards softening asperity.
