Giles Pettibone came here in 1838 and went to farming. He sold out the farm and engaged in the ferry business at Muscatine, at which he was not al- ways successful. He finally fitted up his old boat for a packet on some of the small rivers in the south, where it was sunk.
A. T. Banks was a native of New England. He came here in 1838. He served as county treasurer from 1851 to 1855. He was ...esteemed by every one. In 1856 he was engaged in the liv- ery business, with a man by the name of Morton.
Of the last mentioned signer to the list, J. P. Walton, we have no remarks to make. We will say that he was born in the state of New T Hampshire on Feb. 26, 1826; came to this county when but a mere boy, on June 11, 183S, and has been here ever since.
