To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
My observations, 1880-1885, show the light of the star constant, or nearly so. Lalande's 8% mag. Would therefore seem to point to variation of the Algol type. 6. Ursse Majoris. R. A. I3h. Igm. 6s. , N. 55 33' (1880). Madler found the companion to this bright star invisible on April 18, 1841. About an hour after- wards it was again visible, and he suggested that the companion might be a variable of the Algol type, but with a much longer period. As he was using a telescope at the time, the close ...companion (at 14" distance), and not Alcor (the naked-eye companion) seems to be referred to. Telescopic observers would do well to examine this star occasionally, and com- pare its brightness with that of Alcor. VARIABLES OF THE ALGOL TYPE. 199 7. X Serpentis. R. A. Ish. 4om. 363. , N. 7 44' (1880). On Sept. 5 (?), 1877, I observed that this star was exactly equal in brightness to the 6th-mag. Star Lalande, 28, 716 (about i south of a Serpentis). On April 21, 1878, I found X distinctly the brighter of the two.
