But — Each picture fair was painted but to fade: Each sound grew dulcet but to die away: Each balmy zephyr quickly veered and chilled: At last he came; thy reeling faith grew firm; Thy hope, thy love, thy all so largely placed In this true man, dying, — thou sank'st in ruin.
