The ringleader was a man of the most remarkable talent and ability. His name, or the name that he went by, was Baldeodas. He was the spiritual leader of a body of ascetic Gosains, who resided at the mutt, or cloister-monas- tery, known as the Taj Bauri, a most beautiful edifice in the city of Bijapur.
