Some estate-owners had their aboriginal bear-populations cu...lled, ‘clearing their woods’ as the phrase went. Polystom had read about the Steward of the main Estate on Rhum having all his bears killed, stuffed, to be animated stiffly with rods and cogs and little electrical motors, before placing them back in between the trees. Such artifice was not for Polystom.
