He was postmaster of Omaha, a per- sonal friend of Grover Cleveland, Adlai Stevenson and J. Sterling Morton, and was tendered a ban- quet on his leaving Omaha for California, by the citizens of Omaha, and was at the banquet pre- sented with a handsome loving cup as a memento of the respect and esteem of his fellow citizens. Mr. Martin's family having moved further West when he was a youth, most of his younger days were spent in Nebraska.
