Of course, a lot of ink was spilled uselessly, and a still greater amount of time wasted, in discussing the merits of our various attempts ; but in the end a reasonably appropriate paper was pieced together, whose leading passages read as follows : " Pray do not leave the Kaiser in the lurch, and thus commit the country to an uncertain future now that the relations between the Crown and its first officer have once more strengthened, and most things that fell into a chaotic condition after Bismarck's retirement are being straightened out.
