It represents the spring mysteriously nursed from the lakes and seas as the child is nursed from the placenta. We have no positive testimony as to the aste- rism suggested here, but the water or the Lake is the name of Aquarius amongst the Euphratean peoples, the Sias and Nahuatls of Mexico and in Greece, China and elsewhere *. The sun is in this sign in February when the power of the « Mother of Waters » is at its height in Peru and at this time takes place the curious ritual oft'ering to her known as the water sacrifice.
