Mr. IMiidden was born in Ireland ; his father and family came to America when he was very young, and settled in Andover, Sussex County. His opportunities for acquiring an education were very limited. He went to California, and remained tliere eight and a half years. He si3ent his evenings while there in studying with a friend who had been a school teacher, and thus made up for the want of ^arly advantages.
