The Raleigh and Augusta Air Line Road is now com- pleted and running some fifty-seven miles, thirteen miles having been finished since your last annual meeting. Forty miles more will take them through to the Carolina Central Road touching that Road at a point some five miles east of Rockingham, which will give us a direct communication with Charlotte and Wilmington. It is hoped and believed that this will be accomplised with- in the coming fiscal year. The people of Clarksville. Va., and along ...the line of the old Roanake A^alley Railroad having obtained char- ters from the Legislatures of Virginia and North Caro- lina last winter for the purpose of rebuilding that road, from Manson, a point on j'our road, to Clarksville, a dis- tance of twenty-two miles, are now earnestly engaged in raising funds for that purpose, and contemplate organi- zing their company at an early date. Encouraged with a subscription of fifty thousand dollars to begin with they will make proposals to your Company for operating the road or for some other aid.
