I had laid my plans to visit Vienna at such a time after the opening of the Electrical Exposition as to find it in full operation. I discovered, how- ever, on reaching that city, that the ...opening day had been postponed to a week later than my arrival. I therefore had but little time at my disposal to devote to the Exposition. But even when it was opened the general dis- play was comparatively small and, as far as the application of electricity to military purposes is concerned, the variety of apparatus was very lim- ited. The Austrian War Department was behindhand, and there was very little that was new in its display. There was, it is true, a large assortment of fuses and batteries, but they were all of well-known models.
