The feeling of interest is a warming up to the activity, and at the same time a propensity to continue the activity which promises to satisfy the interest. The feelings of aversion and hostility lose in strength as the feel- ing that one is "getting warm" and the foretaste of the anticipated satisfaction grow stronger. The desired end may be near or remote in the or- der of events. When the end is remote, it may be necessary, in order to attain it, to formulate many nearer ends which are subsid...iary to it. The remote end then serves as a guide, or norm, in formulating the nearer ends, and in correlating and co-ordinat- ing the efforts to attain them. The efficient worker devotes his efforts continu- ously and persistently to the things and aims which he believes will play an important part in the at- tainment of his larger purposes. Efficiency requires that the non-essentials be eliminated. It demands that our aims or purposes be appraised according to the contribution to well-being that may be secured by attaining them.
