ACT No. 232 OF 1912 Section 1. That Section 1 of Act 222 of the General Assem- bly of the State of Louisiana of the year 1910 be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows : Section 1. From and after October 1, 1910, every parent, guardian or other person, residing within the boundaries of the Parish of Orleans, having control or charge of any child or chil- dren between the ages of eight (8) and fourteen (14) years, inclusive, shall send such child or children to a public, private. 56 den...ominational, or parochial day school each school year, during the time in which the public schools of the Parish of Orleans shall be in session, under such penalty for non-compliance here- with as is hereinafter provided. Said child or childre;a may be excused from such attendance by the Attendance or Truant Of- ficers of the Parish, upon the presentation of satisfactory evi- dence that the bodily or mental condition of the child or children is such as to prevent or render inadvisable attendance at school or application to study ; or that such child or children are being instructed at home in the common school branches, or that the child or children have completed the prescribed elementary school course of study, or if the public school facilities within twenty city blocks of the home of the child or children are not adequate to accommodate such child or children, provided, that no excuse from attendance shall be valid for more than three months except where the child has completed the elementary course, or if the public school facilities within twenty city blocks of the home of the child or children are not adequate to accommodate such child or clnldren.
