This plate is made to serve as a most effective cooling shield through the medium of a row of water jets that, flowing downward from the top of the baffle-plate, provide a continuous film over the entire outer face of the sheet metal.

The water pipe passes upward at the front; and the horizontal length extending across to the right, which is drilled with small holes to allow the water jets to discharge down- ward, also serves as a support for the upper end of the sheet- steel baffle-plate.
